Foundations of English Law Course

This course is designed for students and legal assistants who wish to embark on a study of English Law, or to enhance their existing knowledge. This is a foundation course encompassing the elements of Civil, Criminal Law and English Land Law, consisting of six assignments with tests and a final examination.

The Legal system, the Courts and Judiciary

Contracts and Torts, Civil Actions

The basic components of Criminal Law

Arrest, Indictment, Types of Evidence, intensive discussion of hearsay evidence

Land Law, Legal and equitable Estates, Co-ownership, Easements, Covenants, Adverse possession


On completion of your course, you will receive the dual award:

Award 1 is issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges: Foundations of English Law Certificate

Award 2 is issued by our Awarding Body: Level 3 Foundations of English Law Award

At the end of this course successful learners will also receive a Level 3 NCFE Award Certificate of Achievement. Our course has been accredited under our NCFE IIQ Licence and the course measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at Level 3 (using Ofqual's Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) level descriptors) to allow you to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
