About this Course

Designed for people working in health and social care and with the elderly, our TQUK Level 2 Allergy Awareness course covers the main areas of allergies and allergic reactions as well as food labelling legislation and assisting people in care with allergies when making meal choices.

Upon completion of this qualification, students are awarded a TQUK Level 2 Certificate and an OLC Certificate. All certification fees are included in your course fees.

Assessments

To pass this course learners must pass 3 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions. Once these have been read and marked by your personal tutor, feedback and marks are provided to students which contain helpful tips to improve work in future assignments.

Course Content

Unit 1: Allergens, allergies and intolerances

In this unit, you will learn about food allergens, allergies and intolerances. You will look at the differences between allergies and intolerances and identify how each can develop. You will study the main 14 food allergens and consider different testing methods used to diagnose allergies and intolerances.

Unit 2: Food labelling and packaging

In this unit we will examine the importance of food labelling and look at what should be included on the labelling of both pre-packed and non-pre-packed foods. We will consider the importance of avoiding food allergen cross-contact in relation to storage and cleaning and look at the food labelling and packaging regulations.

Unit 3 – Allergy awareness for those working in adult health and social care

In this unit we will consider ways of reducing the risk of an allergic reaction and look at the importance of taking precautions for a person with an allergy when buying, storing and cooking food.

This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.
