Overview

The Painting and Decorating course is an excellent opportunity to take the first step in becoming a successful painter and decorator without disrupting your current life commitments. This course covers a variety of topics ranging from principles of building , communication to be followed, preparing surfaces for decoration, access equipment, applying paints using brush and roller, applying foundations, using decorative finishes on the wall.

This course is aimed at those who wish to work in the construction industry and who want to specialise in painting and decorating. This course will give an overview about the various aspects related to painting and decorating. Once completed you can then decide whether you would work for a company or go self-employed and be your own boss.

Description

MODULE 1 – PRINCIPLES OF BUILDING , INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

This unit covers about the types of foundation and flat roof. The various forms of communication required in the construction industry, the documentation to be maintained , and how to handle the waste are other topics explained in this module.

MODULE 2 – ERECT AND DISMANTLE EQUIPMENT AND WORKING PLATFORMS

This module gives information about the different types of access equipment needed while working at heights, the PPE and the hazards involved in working with access equipment. Besides this , this module throws light on the safe handling , usage, dismantling and storage of access equipment.

MODULE 3 – PREPARING SURFACES FOR DECORATION

This module explains about building substrates preparation of tools and equipments. This module covers the topic of how to prepare surfaces for painting and the surface defects that can be encountered. primers and sealers are also discussed in this module.

MODULE 4 – APPLY PAINT SYSTEMS BY BRUSH AND ROLLER

This module discussed the topics of preparing and protecting the surface area, surface coating and application technique for surface coating, the tools and equipment required for the same. It also gives a detailed explanation about the cleaning , storing and maintenance of the tools and equipment.

MODULE 5 – APPLY FOUNDATION AND PLAIN PAPER

This module covers the topics of adhesives, their types and the storing of materials. Applying lining and wood ingrain papers are also covered in this module.

MODULE 6 – PRODUCT SPECIALIST DECORATIVE FINISHES

This module talks about how to produce quality ground coat, and the application defects that can be faced and how to avoid the same. Different decorative finishes like glaze , scumble are mentioned here. Single colour stencils are also explained in this module.

MODULE 7 – HEALTH , SAFETY AND CONSTRUCTION WELFARE

This module covers the health and safety aspect. How to handle accidents and emergencies, their reporting , safe handling of materials and equipment , working at heights and using access equipment safely, working with electrical equipment are explained in this module. PPE and the legislation involved are also covered.

This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about Painting and Decorating and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course.
