The CompTIA A+ certification is the starting point for a career in IT. The CompTIA A+ is an industry-recognised global certification which validates your abilities and professionalism in the vast field of IT support, computer hardware and mobile devices.

The CompTIA A+ focuses on many versions of Windows Operating Systems and is updated to better reflect the newer technologies that are available in the industry.

The 1000 series covers the majority of Windows Operating Systems and even extends this material to both Mac OS X and Linux systems respectively. However, CompTIA has a proven track record for releasing new exams before the release of Windows Operating Systems.

Chapter 1: PC Hardware

  • Configure and Apply BIOS Settings
  • Differentiate between motherboard components, their purposes and properties
  • Compare and contrast RAM types and features
  • Install and configure expansion cards
  • Install and configure storage devices and use appropriate media
  • Differentiate among various CPU types and features and select the appropriate cooling method
  • Compare and contrast various connection interfaces and explain their purpose
  • Install an appropriate power supply based on a given scenario
  • Select appropriate components for a configuration, to meet customer specifications
  • Given a scenario, evaluate the types and features of display devices
  • Install and configure various peripheral devices
  • Install SOHO multifunction device/printers and configure appropriate settings
  • Compare and contrast differences between the various print technologies and the associated imaging process

Chapter 2: Networking

  • Identify types of network cables and connectors
