This unit provides you with the broad concepts that underpin coaching within the workplace. It is intended to provide you with an introduction to the theoretical aspects of coaching and an opportunity to develop coaching techniques where appropriate, for example in the capacity of line manager.

Structure of Qualification
To achieve a Foundation Award in Learning and Development Essentials, you need a total of between 2 and 12 credits. The Foundation Award in L&D Essentials in Developing Coaching Skills for the Workplace has 3 credits.

- Understand the nature and purpose of coaching
- Know how to use a coaching style to improve performance in the workplace
- Be able to identify the ways in which coaching can be implemented in an organisation.
Who is this course for?
As all the units form part of the Foundation Certificate / Diploma in Learning and Development Practice, you can also use your Award to work towards meeting the knowledge requirements for CIPD professional membership by taking additional units to achieve the full Foundation Certificate or Diploma in L&D Practice.
On completion, you'll receive a CIPD Foundation Award in Learning and Development Essentials.
Requirements
This is a Level 3 programme and is broadly equivalent in terms of level, to an A-Level programme of study.
The Foundation Level Awards in Learning and Development Essentials are for:
- Those who would like to either start or top up their L&D knowledge
- Those aspiring to, or embarking on, a career in L&D
- Those working in the field of L&D in a support role and wish to develop their knowledge and skills
- Those with the responsibility for L&D activities and decisions within an organisation without a specialist function
- Are contracted as employees or independent consultants within the field of L&D
