Description

Care Certificate Course Learning Objectives

The Care Certificate is an agreed-upon set of standards that define the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for specific job roles in the health and social care sectors. It consists of the 15 minimum standards that should be addressed if you are 'new to care' and should be part of a comprehensive induction programme.

The Care Certificate was created collaboratively by Skills for Care, Health Education England, and Skills for Health.

The standards are:

Understand your role
Your personal development
Duty of care
Equality and diversity
Work in a person centred way
Communication
Privacy and dignity
Fluids and nutrition
Awareness of mental health, dementia and learning disabilities
Safeguarding adults
Safeguarding children
Basic life support
Health and safety
Handling information
Infection prevention and control

The Care Quality Commission will expect appropriate staff who are new to the services they regulate to achieve the competencies required by the Care Certificate as part of their induction process.

Who is this course for?

Who is this Care Certificate training course intended for?

Although the Care Certificate is intended for new employees, it also allows existing employees working at various levels to refresh or improve their knowledge and skills.

You are expected to complete the Care Certificate if you are:

Health Care Assistants
Assistant Practitioners
Care Support Workers
Adult Social Workers
Those who provide support to clinical roles in the NHS that involve direct contact with patients.
Adult Social Care workers provide direct care in residential, nursing, and hospice facilities, as well as home and domiciliary care staff.
Other roles in health and social care, such as caring volunteers, porters, cooks, maintenance, or drivers, have direct contact with patients and/or service users.
Newcomers to health or social care.

Requirements

You will be given a multiple-choice exam at the end of the learning process and graded. A certificate is issued for achieving a pass mark of 80% or higher.

You may retake the test at your leisure at no additional charge.

After passing the exam, you will receive a free certificate that you can download or print right away.

The Care Certificate cannot be obtained solely through e-learning or by completing a workbook. While e-learning or workbooks help with knowledge acquisition and assessment, your employer must assess the required skills in the workplace.

Career path

You could use the learning from the Care Certificate towards some existing qualifications and apprenticeships in the future, though periodic refreshers may be required.

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
