Overview

Graphic Design is everywhere! Gain a great introduction to graphic design or just brush up on your software skills. Learn how to work with design concepts using colour, typography and layout. Explore your creativity, while learning the basics of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. The course involves lectures, discussions, projects and plenty of practical experience in the design studio. This is a Level 1 course so you do not need any design experience but you should have good basic computer skills.

Description

Working with materials and processes, mark-making and textures, background to design principles and contextualisation, Introduction to Adobe software: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign: The workspace, creating new docs, layers, tools, introduction to typography, colour and layout, resolution and files, cutting & pasting, brushes, masks, scanning images or textures, saving documents.

Requirements

This is a Level 1  Award in Graphic Design for beginners. You should be confident in using computer. We use MACS at WAES so PC users may find the course more difficult.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
