How is the course structured?

The Level 3 in Beauty Make-up Professional course is divided into six comprehensive modules.

Module 1: Therapy Practice Skills

  • Discuss how to plan a treatment room layout and include equipment and furniture you will require.
  • Describe the importance of the couch layout and show what is required for a make-up treatment.
  • Explain the articles required on the top and bottom tiers of the trolley.
  • Introduce the dress code of a therapist and the importance of having one.

Module 2: The Skin

  • Investigate the three main layers of skin, the layers of the epidermis and describe the Stratum Germinativum.
  • Describe the sweat and sebaceous glands and give the two forms of coil base.
  • Evaluate the various functions of the skin.
  • Identify the following conditions, giving recommended treatment:

- Impetigo
- Conjunctivitis
- Ringworm
- Scabies

Module 3 – Skin Types and Conditions

  • Explain the different types of skin in detail.
  • List and describe all the various skin conditions.
  • Describe one of the two ways in which you can remove make-up from the eyes.
  • Define why we give after care advice and list the tips you can give your client.

Module 4 – Make-up and Tools

Identify the following lotions:

  • Tonics
  • Astringents
  • Bracers and fresheners

Describe the different shades of make-up you would use on a round, long and pear shaped face.
Explain what the following brushes are used for:

  • Powder brush
  • Blusher brush
  • Concealer brush

Module 5 – Make-up Application

Explain what affects, the following lighting colours, have on make-up.

  • Candlelight
  • Blue
  • Electric
  • Red
  • Rose
  • Fluorescent

Evaluate the importance of face powders and describe how it should be applied.
Identify the order in which make-up should be applied.
Describe what you perceive as:

  • Day make-over
  • Evening make-over
  • Special occasion

Module 6 – Health and Safety

  • Identify the different methods of sterilising giving the equipment/tools to which that method is suited.
  • Introduce guidelines to follow with regards to electrical equipment.
