Overview
International criminal law is a subset of international public law designed to systematically hold perpetrators of international crimes accountable. International crimes include genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes against peace.
Procedures and principles relating to modes of liability, defences, evidence, court procedure, sentencing, witness protection, mutual legal assistance and cooperation issues are the scope of international criminal law. As a relatively new legal field, some of its areas aren’t uniform and universal and there exists a series of definitions for different categories of international crimes.
Nonetheless, the struggle to end impunity requires a great deal of knowledge. Individuals who would like to work in this field of law or who are simply interested to know more about international criminal law can use this particular course to gain comprehensive knowledge on the norms and rules that govern international criminal law.

Description
At the end of this course, students shall develop a full understanding of: (1) basics of international criminal law; (2) general characteristics of international criminal law in the past; (3) jurisdiction and basic principles; (4) international criminal courts; (5) atrocity crimes; and (6) transnational crimes and terrorism.
To achieve these goals, this course shall make use of interactive materials to present the concepts of the topics to be discussed. Assessments shall be done after the entire course to check for knowledge retention and understanding.
This course offers an in-depth look at the role of legal profession in serving justice for all the victims of international crimes. International criminal law ensures that no boundary can ever limit justice and those in the legal field are mostly able to take part in this calling through a clear grasp of law procedures and principles that promote safety and security of every citizen of any state.

Course Format
This course is divided into several modules and is delivered online through our interactive learning management system. Students are given access to the learning portal where they can access the course 24/7. Course Duration:
Normative or minimum period of study to complete this is 40 hours. Take note that this is only an estimate.
