Description

Course details

This degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits (equivalent to one year's full-time university study). Stage 1 provides the underpinning knowledge and skills needed for more advanced study at Stages 2 and 3.

Stage 1 (120 credits)

You’ll start by investigating the question ‘What is a business?’ and explore the business functions of human resource management, marketing, accounting and finance. You’ll use activities to build on your existing knowledge and skills through the application of management theory, and apply ideas from your study to the sport or fitness environments.


Compulsory modules (120 credits)

  • An introduction to business studies (BYFL120)

    Using case studies and examples from the football industry, this module investigates the business functions of accounting and finance,human resource management,and marketing.

  • Management practice (BYFL123)

    This module introduces management ideas and uses activities to build on your existing knowledge and skills through the application of management theory, through a football lens.

  • Working and learning in sport and fitness (E113)

    Improve your professionalism and effectiveness, whatever your role in the sports workplace, on this practical module covering everything from instructional skills to customer care.

Stages 2 and 3 (240 credits)

You’ll deepen your understanding of the essential organisational functions you met at Stage 1, and focus on options such as leadership and change, sports and exercise psychology, sports coaching, and sport and conditioning science – which you’ll consider in relation to your own practice. After a fascinating look at the world of strategy, you’ll choose from a broad selection of modules covering entrepreneurship, marketing and the psychological aspects of athletic development.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
