What is Art Therapy:

Art therapy is the deliberate use of art-making to address psychological and emotional needs. Art therapy uses art media and the creative process to help in areas such as, self-expression, coping skills, stress management, and strengthen sense of identity. Art therapy has provided mental health treatment for clients who have experienced trauma, grief & loss, depression, chronic illness, substance abuse, and more.

To work as an Art therapist:

To work as an art therapist you will need to complete a postgraduate course approved by the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). You will also need paid or voluntary experience gained from working in areas such as mental health, education, special needs, or social services.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependent upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material..

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 200 hr

What’s Included in the Online Course:

Full e-course materials including an e-manual, e-books, exercise/goal setting sheets, weekly planners.

Full support is offered throughout the course which includes an assigned / dedicated tutor. This course also includes email support.

We also offer all students doing the home study training the opportunity to come along to our monthly best practice groups in Manchester at no extra cost. This greatly enhances learning.

The monthly support groups are free for all students and give you the opportunity to see live demonstrations of the techniques and skills taught on the course. For those that can’t attend the events we also film these monthly sessions and email a copy to all students each month. The practice groups are optional and not essential for completing the course.

The online courses are assessed by a written assignment at the end of the course which consists of a question paper and written answers.

There is no time limit for completing the course, it can be studied in your own time at your own pace. Help and support is always available from the training centre team throughout your training. This course will take you up to 200 hours to complete working from home.

Certification:

On completion of the course you will receive an Art Therapy Certificate from Vita Online Learning and Education for completing the course

Who is this course for?

If you are a social worker, coach, teacher, therapist, counsellor, psychologist, or anyone with a desire to learn and understand a new discipline and form of communication, then an art therapy education can help

This course is ideal for those that are either complete beginners to the field of Art Therapy and are considering making a career change to become a Art Therapist, with the aim of getting an insight and understanding of Art Therapist, or existing. Art Therapists, psychologists, therapists, teachers, coaches or parents looking to reinforce their knowledge or to pick up some new skills. This course is also ideal if you are interested in a career in Art Therapy, though are unsure if you want to commit yourself financially and time wise to a full Art Therapy qualification.

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered.
