ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION - PRIMARY TEACHING

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a level 3 qualification which prepares students to study at degree level. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE Primary Teaching course could be for you.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Primary Teaching) is a Level 3 qualification which prepares people to study for a Teaching degree in the future.

It is designed for:

• adults seeking a change of direction because of unemployment or lack of career opportunities, and who have an interest in Primary School Teaching

The Diplomas are validated and awarded by OCN London and are recognised by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education.

Learners offered a place on the Access programme will take Subject Specific Modules alongside Academic Study Skills with an additional tutorial each week making a total of 12 hours contact time. A possible 15 hours independent study time per week may be necessary. The programme is fast moving, exciting and demanding with rigorous assessment. It is also highly rewarding and offers a great opportunity to succeed.

When applying for an Access course you are entitled to apply for a Government Loan to cover the cost, this will be written off if you proceed to a Degree programme.

The qualification has a credit value of 60 credits. It is a Level 3 qualification, although some units within it may be set at Level 2.

You will study;

• 45 credits graded at Level 3 in Subject Specific Primary Teaching units
• 15 credits ungraded at Level 2 or Level 3 in Academic Study Skills

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Method(s) Of Study: Taught classes and supported independent study.

Method Of Assessment: Various assignments which may include essay, presentations, research projects, seen papers and examinations.

WHAT IS THE ENTRY PROCESS?

An interview, plus confirmation of English, Maths & Science grades, followed by enrolment directly onto the Diploma.

Minimum qualifications: Other qualfications, level not known

GCSEs grade C in Maths, English and Science, or equivalent.

Demonstrable knowledge and interest in Primary level Teaching

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level/Level1 and Level2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER THIS COURSE?

Career Opportunities: Degree level courses in Early Years education and related professions followed by careers in the Teaching sector.
