The AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is the intermediate level of the AAT Accounting Qualification. It offers technical training in accounting and its main purpose is to provide students with specialist knowledge and skills to gain employment in an accounting role and / or the opportunity to progress to further qualification in accountancy or a related field. What is the course about?
The AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is the intermediate level of the AAT Accounting Qualification. It offers technical training in accounting and its main purpose is to provide students with specialist knowledge and skills to gain employment in an accounting role and / or the opportunity to progress to further qualification in accountancy or a related field. If you are aged 24 or over then you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan from the UK government to cover some or all of the costs for this course.
What topics does the course cover?
The Accounts Preparation and Prepare Final Accounts modules examine the process of making end of year adjustments to the trial balance and producing the Income Statement and Statement of Financial Position
How will I be taught and assessed?
The Level 3 course is taught in classrooms with highly experienced teachers who have worked in the accounting environment. Delivery of the programme is through a series of lectures, workshops and seminars. You are expected to attend two sessions per week as well as some Saturday workshops. The pace of learning is accelerated which requires a commitment of at least five hours home study per week. Homework, practice simulations and exercises are indicative of the programme to assess progress and learning on a weekly basis. All of the AAT and skills units except Spreadsheet Software are assessed through online examinations lasting 60-150 minutes. The Spreadsheet Software module assessed through an invigilated online 'time-constrained' assignment.
Are there any other costs or equipment I need to get?
Pen and Paper, folder for notes, a calculator and a USB, handouts will be given. You will be required to purchase study manuals to assist you during the course. Your tutor will advise you where the cheapest places to buy these are at the start of the course, Limited textbooks are available in the college LRC for short term loans. Applications for AAT membership and membership fees must be paid directly to AAT in addition to any course fees payable to the College. You can find out more about AAT membership by visiting the AAT website. The college will pay for the first attempt at an exam and if required, 1 resit. Any additional resits can be taken but you will be responsible for funding these attempts (the college will not pay for additional resits).
By the end of the course what should I be able to do?
The programme will give successful students the skills and knowledge to work competently in a finance, accounting or book-keeping role as well as the opportunity to progress their studies to the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting, and thereby obtain full membership of the AAT Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to apply for careers in roles such as: Accounts Clerk or Accounting Payable Supervisor.
Requirements
This is a Level 3 qualification. You will need to sit an Initial Assessment to establish if you possess a minimum of a level 2 in English and Maths. Further to the Initial Assessment you will also need to attend an interview to assess your suitability for the course.
Career path
You could continue your studies and gain the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting. Full AAT membership will follow after one year's appropriate work experience. You could work as an Accounting Assistant or Book-keeper, and would be competent to prepare accounts for small businesses.
