Classical Civilisation A-Level – What You’ll Learn
On this engaging, online course, you’ll take a deep dive into Ancient Greece, immersing yourself in classics such as Homer’s Odyessy and Virgil’s Aeneid. From love to democracy, you’ll examine thought-provoking concepts, developing a solid understanding of the social and historical context of classical thoughts and belief systems. You’ll develop your ability to evaluate and analyse ideas and apply these to a range of source materials; skills that are transferable to almost any higher-level degree or career field.
This distance learning course follows the new OCR A-Level Classical Civilisation syllabus and has been designed specifically to be studied online in your own time and space. Study Hours
- The learning hours for this course are up to 300 hours, which is around 30 minutes per day for 18 months.
Study Method
- Study completely online using our award-winning learning platform, MyOxbridge.
Course Duration
- On average, students complete this course in 12 months, but we'll give you up to 24 months. Don’t worry if you go over the year though, we can organise an extension to your course for an additional fee, which also extends your tutor support.
Assessment

You can enrol now for examinations from Summer 2024.
You’ll be required to complete three standard A-Level written exams.
- Paper 1: 2 hours 20 minutes, 40% of A-Level, 100 marks.
- Paper 2: 1 hour 45 minutes, 30% of A-Level, 75 marks.
- Paper 3: 1 hour 45 minutes, 30% of A-Level, 75 marks.
These exams contain a mixture of short and long answer questions and extended response questions.
We provide a guaranteed exam space in one of our partner exam centres around the UK.
We also offer an exam pass guarantee. If you don’t pass the first time, we’ll support you for free, to your next exams.
Assignments
During your course, you’ll be required to complete various assignments. These do not contribute towards your final grade but provide you with an opportunity to submit work to your tutor for marking and feedback. This will help you to monitor your progress and will be used to produce predicted grades if needed.
