Assist Trust is a Norwich based progression day service for adults with learning disabilities in Norfolk. We encourage our members to gradually take on responsibilities and support them to learn about expectations in the real world. This is achieved through offering a wide range of groups, which help individuals to speak up, build confidence and develop friendships with others.

Role Responsibilities – Support Workers:

  • Getting to know all members thoroughly, allowing relationships to develop gradually and naturally as trust levels build
  • Allowing members to discuss their own lives, wishes and concerns as naturally as possible
  • Remaining good humoured and approachable at all times in order to facilitate such interactions
  • Sharing your own experiences in order to facilitate good levels of trust when appropriate to do so, making sure topics of discussion are appropriate and do not cross professional lines
  • Providing strengths based support, helping members to have the best possible chance of success in the real world, helping them to understand and manage real world expectations
  • Encouraging quieter members to speak up and partake in activities and to discreetly manage more dominant individuals who might take time and attention from others
  • Leading, co-leading or supporting other staff to carry out activities and groups
  • Developing engaging, interesting and inclusive activities according to the needs of the individuals
  • Ensuring all groups and activities reflect real world expectations including: punctuality, appropriate behaviour, mutual respect when working with others
  • Advocating on behalf of individual members at appropriate times while helping them to speak up
  • Maintaining a good awareness of areas of concern, risk or medical need of the members that you work with
  • Being prepared to cover any group, occasionally at short notice
  • Maintaining very clear professional boundaries at all times

Person Specification – Support Worker:

  • A care related qualification (NVQ level 2 equivalent or above) - Desirable
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities - Desirable
  • Friendly, confident and approachable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to deal with difficult or challenging situations professionally and calmly
  • Imaginative and able to find creative solutions
  • First Aid trained - Desirable
  • Clean driving licence - Desirable
  • A good team player

Terms of Role:

  • 2 positions available
  • £9.29 per hour
  • 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 6 month Fixed Contract position (to be reviewed)
