WORKSHOP TECHNICIAN Up to £35k: Hertfordshire (Manufacturing, Medical equipment, Mechanical )
My client is a highly specialised organisation, focusing on orthopaedic oncology, and complex primary and
revision cases in the upper limb, lower limb and pelvis. They believe in working closely with their orthopaedic
surgeons to achieve the most effective surgical outcomes.
As an experienced Workshop Technician who will report directly into the METS PRODUCTION MANAGER. You will be responsible for the manufacture of batches of orthopaedic implants, to the tolerances specified on standard component drawings using, CNC mills and/or lathes.
You will be asked to observe all safety procedures, use appropriate safety equipment and comply with all QA/QC procedures and working instructions.
You will be fully competent in using precision measuring equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Meeting production deadlines, whilst working within safety guidelines and maintaining a safe working environment.
You will liaise with Production Engineers to advise and assist on production issues. In order to maintain, adjust, repair and clean workshop equipment and machinery as required.
You will work well both as an individual, as well as a team member and will undertake training and development as and where necessary. Performing other duties detailed by the workshop manager, as and when necessary.
Qualifications, skills and desirable experience
A time served apprenticeship within the engineering industry is essential.
A minimum of 5-8 years working with metal and setting / operating CNC milling machines and/or CNC centre lathes;
A minimum City and Guilds 205 pt2 is or a significant period of related work experience
The nature of the business at SIW means that there are quite often strict deadlines that have to be met, the ability to work under pressure and to give that little bit more is also very important.
Ideally you will have worked on Mazak Mills/Lathes, with a knowledge of Mazatrol control language and/or Haas Mill with Fanuc controls.

This will ensure that you are fully aware that any non-compliance or improper performance of your role may occur in a defective device. You also need to ensure that you remain up to date with the contents of the Quality manual and how this affects your duties.
