The Role

We are supporting the recruitment of a Workplace Personal Assistant (PA) to support one of our Policy Managers to carry out their duties during the working day.

The Policy Manager has cerebral palsy and requires a PA to provide a combination of secretarial and personal care support to work effectively, safely and comfortably, primarily in our London Bridge office but also when attending external meetings and events as necessary. The PA may also occasionally be required to work from your own home and provide remote support over the Internet.

The Policy Manager works within our busy assistive technology team that pushes to improve access to technologies that help disabled people participate in society on an equal basis by advocating for changes to government policies and services. The team works in close collaboration with internal colleagues and external stakeholders, ranging from Parliamentarians and their staff, government officials, commercial organisations to university academics.

Main Duties

Personal care

  • Preparing meals
  • Assisting with feeding
  • Assisting with light toileting activities
  • Maintaining personal hygiene
  • Handling money
  • Assisting with navigating streets and venues as necessary e.g., finding wheelchair accessible routes
  • Organising transport
  • Coordinating with the Policy Manager and other assistants to ensure continuity of support both on day to basis and throughout the year

Secretarial support

  • Assist with managing correspondence with Policy Connect colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Assist with organising meetings and appointments
  • Assist with taking meeting notes
  • Assist with managing records e.g., Keeping track of stakeholder details
  • Assist with sending emails
  • Assist with making phone calls
  • Assist with organising and participating in video conference calls, usually over Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Assist with preparing PowerPoint slides e.g., arranging and formatting content provided by the Policy Manager
  • Assist with proof reading documents
  • Assist with simple research tasks e.g., finding information, relevant links and documents on the Internet
  • Assist with updating website and social media


  • To ensure that the PA understands the terms that the Policy Manager uses in their work and the general context of interactions with colleagues and external stakeholders, they should take an interest in:
  • Ongoing projects and activities in within the assistive technology team and across Policy Connect
  • Relevant government departments and policy areas
  • Key issues impacting the lives of disabled and their access to technology

Person requirements


Qualifications and experience

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent
  • Experience of working in an office environment
  • Experience of providing personal support - either in an informal or working capacity

Skills & Abilities

  • Good level of spoken and written English
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Good note taking skills
  • Comfortable facilitating conversations e.g., helping the Policy Manager to manage speech impairment when speaking to new people
  • Occasional travel outside London e.g., to attend conferences
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
