We are looking for Work Area Manager, to join our team at the Yorkshire Distribution Centre to manage up to 45 direct reports including full and part time employees.


This is excellent opportunity to work with the largest UK parcel delivery and distribution service and work with a variety of stakeholders to include Shift Managers, Plant Manager and quality/safety leads to ensure productivity and the achievement of KPIs are exceeded.

The role

Reporting to the Early Shift Manager, you’ll be responsible for Royal Mail operations across the specified work area leading the successful achievement of quality of service, productivity, automation and employee targets.


As Work Area Manager you’ll lead a team of full and part time employees and be responsible for attendance management, conducting regular one to one/team meetings, training and development and reviewing the areas performance.


You’ll have responsibility for safety and engagement within the Distribution Centre and play a key role in driving and implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives.


In addition, you may be required to cover the Shift Manager duties in their absence.

Attendance: 06:00 – 14:12 Monday to Friday. A degree of flexibility is essential as you may be required to cover ad-hoc shifts to include weekends.

About you

From a Logistics or Operational background, you’ll have proven experience of successfully managing large teams in a unionised environment and improving performance KPIs (people, efficiency, quality and safety).


As well as managing our people, our operation requires an ability to think strategically, logically tackling complex problems, often under pressure.  This, coupled with a good numerical understanding will help you become a successful Manager at Royal Mail.


You’ll be able to demonstrate coaching, influencing and relationship management at all levels from senior management to workplace level.


You’ll need a high level of emotional intelligence to go with this because remember you are managing people and you will need to engage them to create a winning team to support you.  You will also have a passion to consistently improve results helping us to drive relentless change for the benefit of our people and our customers.
