Job Purpose

Responsible for the presentation of all products and product content on the Ryman website and store marketing materials to ensure we reach our vision of world class representation of product.

This includes managing and commercial trading of website categories and products in order to drive and maximise sales, web page performance and site conversion, including implementation of product copy, images, videos, related content, cross sells and categorisation so all categories are fully optimised.

Product/Category Content Management & Maintenance

  • Continuous visual merchandising, review & maintenance of onsite product and categories to ensure best quality representation and all products are consistent, correct and show attractive shopping selection.

  • Define relationships for a product to other like products for cross selling and up selling purposes i.e. where the purchase of one would lead to a higher conversion of its like products e.g. printers and paper and maintain this for all products and ensure relevancy across associated product ranges and categories.

  • Writing of all SEO rich copy for new categories and merch pages to ensure that the product and category visibility is maximised in both the internal product search engine and also the external browser search engines e.g. Google

  • Completion of full auditing for all product ranges within category responsibilities: this includes enhancing product presentation on site - working with suppliers to build relationships with their web optimisation teams and enhance the assets and information we get from them for the products we stock

  • Ensure all images are correctly optimised and tagged as per SEO guidelines. Ensure that all products have a zoom to a high resolution images and that relevant Video content is presented - whilst ensuring all the media upload to the site is optimised to improve page load time

  • Daily maintenance of all discontinued product and updating cross sell information accordingly for all discontinued product. Also, work with Digital Marketing Manager to define a process for SEO and PPC where products are discontinued from the business.

  • Support trade admin role to ensure allocation of products into relevant multiple categories. Make recommendations for new categories to be set up.

  • Assist ecommerce team in the design of the product categorisation and navigation for the website.

  • Report on Product Upload status to all key stakeholders and use internally created reports to track progress.

  • Assist with product setups during busy periods and help with support to other areas of ecommerce/buying as and when necessary.

  • Work with Content Marketing Manager to organise product category photography by either using the suppliers/brands online image libraries or arranging photoshoots.

  • Assist in the creation of a standard naming policy for the naming of products on the website. Ensure that all products are named according to the standard product naming convention as agreed with the business.


  • Writing of SEO rich product and category copy to support category sales

  • Create attribute templates for each product category and sub category.

  • Generation of content including blog articles as appropriate to support sales and marketing of all products and categories.


  • Run and utilise daily and weekly Bestseller Reports and KPI reports to merchandise the site, identifying opportunities, threats and trends using analytics data.

  • Use of analytics data to evaluate product performance

  • Understand product conversion rates and high trafficked products

  • Understanding and measuring page bounce rates, values and exit rates

Regular Online Competitor Shopping

  • Review of competitor product opportunities

  • Review of competitor pricing on key product lines


  • Obsessive customer focus. Always start a decision making process with the customer and always end the process with the customer.

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure the capture of good product content, maintain strong relationships with key departments across the business, including stock control and marketing.

  • Be a real team player, sharing information and learning all the time. Communication is imperative with the rest of the buying & ecommerce teams ensuring everyone is up-to-date and aware of activity at all times.

  • Passion for product and an interest in retailing.

  • A willingness to learn and improve and have a 'hands on’ approach


  • Experience of retail, online merchandising and commerce beneficial.

  • Commercial understanding of product

  • Customer oriented, experience of marketing to customers

  • Copy Writing capability/experience
