Visitor Experience Manager

Sheffield Park Gardens are famous for their "Autumn Colours" and spectacular gardens, but we want to make this a year-round visitor attraction, with a clear programme of focussed themes and creative ways to engage with visitors whatever the season. In order to achieve this goal, we are looking for a Visitor Experience Manager with real drive and energy to bring creative ideas and commercially astute solutions to the programming for the property.

In this 12 month fixed term role we’d like to see you develop a programme of events for the year that inspires a wide variety of visitors and members to engage with us in new and exciting ways.

What you'll be doing

Working closely with the General Manager in this new role, you’ll be responsible for every aspect of the visitor experience. You’ll be leading a team across all aspects of visitor experience at the portfolio, from the first click on social media, to the welcome they receive in the car park, to the experiences they have across all areas of the property, from the garden to the tea room and the retail shop. You’ll make sure that these experiences feel like a part of the larger picture here.

You’ll work with other Heads of Department to ensure that the visitor experience is at the forefront of what we do. And crucially, you’ll understand our cause and how we can link our work back to the overall aims of the National Trust. You’ll create a collaborative team through your own managerial approach, and you’ll help the General Manager deliver the long term goals for the visitor experience team over the next 3 to 5 years.

You’ll be responsible for exceptional service across the property, working to visitor and recruitment targets, and you’ll have people and budgets to manage on a daily basis. As part of the duty management support team you’ll also need to work some weekends and bank holidays.

Who we're looking for

It’s a significant role and we need someone who can take on a big challenge. We mean it - this is a potential career path for a General Manager at the National Trust. In order to succeed you’ll need to have:

  • Experience of leading teams in a very busy visitor attraction
  • Understanding of programming of events, and interpretation
  • High standards of customer service and presentation
  • The ability to lead by example, and inspire and motivate your team
  • Experience of people leadership and budget management
  • Drive and passion for "doing busy well" thriving in a busy environment
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how best to maximise opportunities
  • A strategic approach to managing the visitor engagement at the property
  • Awareness of our ethos and cause, and how to interpret this for our visitors
