Contract Type: Permanent


Location: Heysham 1


Salary: Starting from £21,290


Closing Date: 4th November 2018



Annualised hours contract of 16 hours per week. Flexibility needed to work more than 16 hours per week (hours detailed below).


Our Visitor Centre is open Monday to Friday 10:00 - 16:00, Saturday's by appoitments only and closed Bank Holidays and Sunday's.


Tour guides are required to work generally 08:30 - 16:30 or occassionaly 08:30 - 12:30/12:30 - 16:30 and evening visits when required.


Attendance at science fairs, careers fairs, community events either during the day, evenings, weekends as required.



Vacancy Overview



As part of the Company's aspiration to become increasingly open and transparent about nuclear power and the role it plays in meeting the UK's energy needs, Visitor Centres have been established at each of our nuclear power stations.


This allows us to raise awareness of EDF Energy's contribution to society, including employment and development of experienced staff who enable the company to play a pivitol role in the continued generation of low carbon electricity as well as nuclear new build.



Nature and Scope



This role reports to the Visitor Centre Co-ordinator.


This busy Visitor Centre requires the applicant to have a fast thinking approach, being able to respond quickly to changing situations.


This role is designed to provide flexible support to station tours and visits to deliver the best possible experience for visitors.


You will act as a face and voice of the station and EDF Energy, delivering presentations and tours to groups which include general public, organisations, business and education.



Principal Accountabilities




  • Act as the face and voice of the station and EDF Energy
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of visitors at all times throughout thier visit
  • Represent the station at external events including giving presentations to various groups e.g. business/education (from pre-school to university level)
  • Support educational groups through centre activities and station tours
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with the Visitor Centre Co-ordinator to promote and manage the reputation of EDF Energy in the local community
  • Carry out 'lead guide' duties which requires the planning and organisation of visits to the station and community events
