Overall Purpose of this Post: to be a proactive and collaborative member of the virtual school team in its pursuit of improved educational outcomes and life chances for looked after children and young people by delivering individual and small group tuition to identified LAC.

Major Objectives: These will include, as appropriate, those that reflect key corporate priorities, for example, Cultural Diversity, Social Justice, Environmental Quality and Economic Prosperity.

• Have qualified teacher status
• Be willing to work flexibly with a regularly changing timetable
• Be willing and able to teach core subjects across the secondary and upper primary age range
• Be willing to work outside school hours, contributing to the wider activities of the Virtual School
• To developing, promote and publicise the vision and purpose of the Virtual School (LAC).
• To be fully conversant with and focused upon the priorities in the Virtual School (LAC)
• To use data intelligently to monitor, track, intervene and support the progress of all looked after children and young people
• To devise, coordinate, and implement a wide range of interventions to raise attainment and accelerate the progress of looked after children and young people in collaboration with schools and other appropriate professionals
• To review and assess regularly with the virtual school (LAC) team the effectiveness the impact of interventions made available through the virtual school (LAC) team
• To work with looked after children and young people some of whom have complex needs, in conjunction with a wide variety of other professionals, to find appropriate and creative solutions and strategies to raise educational attainment
• To know and understand and promote understanding of the barriers faced by looked after children and young people as result of loss, trauma and attachment difficulties
• To build strong, supportive relationships with identified individuals that lead to accelerated progress
• A willingness to travel across the area to deliver tuition – own transport essential

Summary of job tasks: The tasks listed are, generally, only those taking at least 10% of the postholder's time.

• To use data intelligently to monitor, track, intervene and support the progress of all looked after children and young people in both Leicester City Council schools and out of city (OOC) schools
• To devise, coordinate, implement, a wide range of interventions to raise attainment and accelerate the progress of looked after children and young people, in collaboration with schools and other appropriate professionals
• To review and assess regularly with the virtual school (LAC) team the effectiveness the impact of interventions made available through the virtual school (LAC) team
• To work with looked after children and young people some of whom have complex needs, in conjunction with other professionals, to find appropriate and creative solutions and strategies to minimise disruption of education
• To know and understand and promote understanding of the barriers faced by looked after children and young people as a result of loss, trauma and attachment difficulties
• Be willing to work outside school hours, contributing to the wider activities of the Virtual School
