UX Research Manager

We are looking for someone exceptional (will settle for Great) to build and lead our in-house Research team. We wrote a really long job description but it was a bit boring. So we re-wrote it to only include the main requirements for the role and it boils down to this:

The team:

The Research team sits as part of the Product Design team. We are a team of 34, including UX, UI, Researchers & Optimisation Analysts. We are spread across four different countries which brings a fantastic diverse culture to our team. Our offices are in London, Dublin, Porto & Cluj-Napoca (which is in Romania for those who don’t have an A-Level in Geography – but you could have just used Google Maps I guess). There’s a fantastic atmosphere in our team – we pride ourselves on it.

Our office environment:

We have testing facilities in both London and Dublin offices… they’ll be yours to play with. Currently trying to refurb the London one into something pretty special, and Retail are keen for us to build a virtual shop to test in too.

A typical day in the role:

There is a massive diversity to the type of projects you will be involved in. We have multiple products, many apps, websites as well as in-shop retail work. You may get your hands dirty sometimes but the challenge (and excitement) of this role isn’t so much doing the research, it is defining what the research should be, finding out how the answers from the research can then inform the business and making a real difference. We are in a very competitive industry with millions of real time transactions, so getting UX decisions right is absolutely critical to the business and research has genuine business impact that can been seen and measured in hours, rather than months

  • You might be organising focus-groups, attending Pints with Punters, lab-based user-testing, or surveys, etc.

  • Working with stakeholders, reviewing roadmaps, prioritizing projects and identifying where Research can play a vital part.

  • Building relationships with stakeholders and learning our products

  • Working with Analytics and Insights teams

Some of what you'll be doing:

  • Managing the end-to-end Research process.

  • Managing & mentoring the Research & Optimisation teams.

  • Promoting the power of research to the wider company.

  • Work closely with Product Managers, UX team, UI Developers and other analysts throughout the business to discuss and prioritise testing opportunities, share insights and knowledge and act as a consultant using your optimisation expertise.

  • Be the testing / optimisation evangelist for the business, regularly consulting and presenting to various teams on how conversion optimisation can help shape the future.

  • Day to day management of Research and Optimisation team members

  • Be an inspiring leader, who can influence and persuade multiple teams, as well as effectively people manage and develop direct reports.

  • Be a champion for our testing and analytics tools and be the go to expert on the integrations.

  • Understanding of how to use web analytics & user behaviour monitoring data.

  • Mentor team members

The person we are looking for should have most of these:

  • Provable experience of using both Qual & Quant methods – and knowing how to apply these to the Product Design environment.

  • Experience in leading a team with direct reports.

  • The ability to define and sell the power of Research to the commercial business.

  • Strong personal skills who enjoys building strong relationships with team and stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and use of testing and analytics tools.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

  • Have a passion for change, problem solving and helping to shape the future through proactive analysis.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks managing priorities and focus as needed.

  • Confident, personable and a team player.

  • Excellent communication skills. It’s important that you can present findings effectively and concisely.
