£26,000 to £28,000 depending on experience + benefits

Our client, an established and highly regarded Lloyd's syndicate, is currently looking for Underwriting Assistants to join various teams, including Global Property, Specialty, and Reinsurance. The successful candidates will assist Underwriters with the implementation and monitoring of the Business Plan in respect of the relevant Underwriting division.

Prospective candidates must be a recent Graduate, with either a Degree education (2:1 or above) or excellent A Level results. At least a B in GCSE Mathematics is also essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Underwriters with hitting or exceeding the business plan underwriting profit target in respect of business class, whilst working within the company's risk tolerance, pricing and governance framework.
  • Provide representation, liaison and relationship development with Lloyd’s and market bodies.
  • Support Underwriters within personal underwriting authority and in accordance with key business plan targets (i.e. business mix, line utilisation, aggregation, GWP, loss ratios, direct expenses).
  • Regularly monitor and review progress against plan with Underwriters / other senior management and through market knowledge and reserving exercise.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with brokers, clients as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve the quality of people, and performance of the account through new ideas, processes and approaches.

Requirements

  • Experience of broking or underwriting, ideally in the London Market, is preferred. However, gradudates (2:1 or above) with office based experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in Property CAT modelling is preferred, but not required.
  • Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, as well as having a keen interest in mathematics and a high level of analytic ability.
