UNDERWRITER DESCRIPTION

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced junior underwriter to join CRL, a fast growing, fast paced dynamic SME. The Underwriter plays a crucial role in auditing, driving performance and ensuring compliance across the company. This department is responsible for compliance and the assessment, management and mitigation of risk.

Responsibilities of the Underwriter

Underwriting

  • Assessing client background information and liaising with specialist and professionals to calculate, judge, and assess risks
  • Issuing final certificates and conditional policies
  • Completion of Bordereau to insurers
  • Negotiating and agreeing terms and conditions with internal and external customers
  • Auditing quotes
  • Assist the Head of Underwriting to lead meetings and industry leading steering groups with carriers, insurers and public bodies e.g. CML to raise the company profile establishing us as the provider of choice within the market
  • In liaison with legal counsel and the Head of Underwriting, draft policies and specific conditions
  • Take decisions for the company regarding the selection of appropriate and competitive premiums
  • Admin duties covering all areas of Underwriting

Compliance

  • Auditing and preparing client files for insurer inspections, ensuring compliance across the company
  • Aiding in maintenance of the compliance plan, ensuring processes are in place for the management and maintenance of client files and monitoring programme
  • Produce monthly MI reports outlining progress against the plan on behalf of the Head of Underwriting for the board
  • Assisting with maintenance of claims, conflicts of interest and complaints registers, adhering to plans to protect the business through training, high levels of service and compliance

Person specification of the Underwriter

  • Excellent decision making and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build rapport at all levels and communicate effectively
  • Credibility within the market, with a solid background in insurance
  • Experience working in a fast paced, pressurised environment
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft packages (word, excel, PowerPoint) and CRM’s (e.g. Salesforce)

Must have relevant experience as an Underwriter
