CU Trust works nationally with children aged 5 and above to encourage, track and celebrate the learning they do outside of school. We are looking for motivated people who share our values to strengthen and diversity our charity Board.
Our aim is for all young people participating in Children’s University to become the very best that they can be but we are especially keen to continue to focus our work on those children who we know will benefit the most. As a Trustee of CU Trust, you can help us make a real difference to the children who participate in Children’s University, many of whom face disadvantage in one of its many forms. For the more vulnerable learners (those disadvantaged by income, low in confidence, with low aspirations and a lack of resilience) who may feel inhibited in the classroom and are more likely to be held back in later life, Children’s University can provide much needed access to enriched learning and activities which build character and cultural capital, help improve their life chances, and encourage parental and familial engagement supporting curriculum learning and so enhanced attainment in school.
We are particularly looking for candidates who can deepen our expertise in these key skill areas: fund-raising and securing philanthropic investment, strong corporate/private sector links, current education landscape, digital learning/education experience, stakeholder engagement and influencing, strategic monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for high-calibre candidates who have proven success in their own field of work and who, in addition, are passionate about: social mobility, the power and potential of informal education and informal skills development, raising young aspirations, closing gaps in educational opportunity, attainment and outcome, boosting the self-confidence, resilience and cultural capital of children regardless of their background, improving future life chances.
We particularly welcome applications from a diverse range of people to reflect the diverse nature of our beneficiaries. The children we work with come from a broad range of backgrounds. To best support all the children we benefit, our trustees need to come from a wide range of backgrounds themselves. We therefore welcome applications irrespective of gender, age, disability, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race or religion and belief. We will particularly welcome applications from women, BME candidates and younger applicants to increase the diversity of the Board.
