Job Title: Trainee Ink Technician
Location: Greater Manchester
Reports To: Ink Department Manager

Job Purpose

The Trainee Ink Technician will be responsible for supporting the development, preparation, and application of inks in a print production environment. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with prior experience working with wet chemicals or a graduate seeking to build a career in the printing industry. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise and progress within the field of ink technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the formulation and preparation of inks to meet specific production requirements.
  • Conduct routine tests on ink samples to ensure quality standards are met, including viscosity, pH, and color matching.
  • Provide technical support to the production team, ensuring ink performance aligns with printing specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve ink-related issues during production runs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of raw materials and ink supplies.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop new ink formulations and improve existing products.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations when handling inks and chemicals.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs to develop knowledge of ink technologies and printing processes.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with wet chemicals (e.g., in a laboratory or manufacturing/production  environment).
  • Strong interest in the print industry and/or ink technology.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Basic understanding of quality control processes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of color theory or prior experience in color matching.
  • Previous experience in the print industry.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory or production equipment.
