Hays are working with a local authority based in County Down to source a Tobacco Control Officer on a temporary basis. This position will be based in the Environmental Health department working alongside an experienced team of Environmental Health professionals.

Your new role
Based in Downpatrick you will work in the surrounding council district and report to Area Supervisor.
The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and securing compliance with the Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 2006, the Children and Young Persons (Protection from Tobacco) (Northern Ireland) Order 1991 and associated tobacco control legislation. Where necessary this will involve the instigation of legal proceedings and the issuing of fixed penalty notices. He/she will be responsible for co-ordinating the activity within each Council to meet the relevant objectives set out in the DHSSPS strategic Tobacco Action Plan.

What you'll need to succeed
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have:
A 3rd level qualification in an Environmental Health related subject.
At least 1 years' experience dealing with businesses and/or individuals in an enforcement/advisory/ promotional role relating to Environmental Health, in a face to face situation on a daily basis.

A valid driving licence with access to a form of transport that will allow fulfilment of the duties of the post or have access to a suitable form of transport which will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post.

It would be desirable to have:
A degree or diploma that entitles them to membership of the CIEH. Experience of preparing files for legal proceedings.

What you'll get in return
This position would be ideally suited to a recent graduate in Environmental Health who has completed a placement with a local council in an environmental health department.
You will be paid £15.52 per hour on a weekly basis via BACS transfer, with the equivalent of 28 days annual leave.
The working hours will be 36 per week Monday to Friday with some ad-hoc requirement to work evenings and weekends.
All mileage will be reimbursed at 65p per mile.
