About the role

The TA Communications Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim UK supports the Head of TA Communications to deliver all external product communications across the UK business and franchise groups including all aspects of launch and pre-launch communications, strategy and implementation offering strategic advice, content development and execution plans where required.

This role will act as the subject matter lead in their franchise area and support the Head of TA Communications and the External Affairs team during any issues and crisis management activities as well as provide content for digital and social media activities.

Where compelling content and franchise updates are required for the internal engagement strategy, this role will also supply the internal engagement team with ideas, images and support to create stories for all internal platforms.


  • Deliver on the day to day activity required to build the external product communications strategy and the business objectives of each respective franchise group.

  • Ensure the implementation of an effective product communications strategy to engage with stakeholders such as medical professionals, patient groups and key media.

  • Evaluate all current external product communications plans - content and tools - and devise further recommendations to ensure BI is using best in class methods and channels to engage with its diverse stakeholder base.

  • Responsible for providing the Head of TA Communications with subject matter expertise during any reactive and proactive issues management and crisis activity.

  • Oversee and coordinate all patient group activity across the franchise groups where there is a communications impact/opportunity.

  • Personally, responsible for the execution of the franchise area product communications plan.

  • Works with the Head of TA Communications to coordinate a number of third party agencies to support the delivery of communication programmes against agreed franchise business objectives.

What experience / skills you need

  • Experienced product communications professional familiar with current and new digital media

  • Pharmaceutical and health sector expertise. This should include experience of engaging with patient groups, supporting teams who are drafting pharmaceutical product and disease awareness material, providing reference packs and facilitating approvals and generating media coverage for a diverse range of clients and therapeutic areas

  • Solid understanding of the way the NHS is structured, NICE and any other associated UK drug approval processes

  • Experience of working in house in an external facing role or for a specialist consultancy

  • Experience of communications which integrates corporate and healthcare communications activity
