The Aintree site has 20 operating theatres across four departments which cover a wide variety of surgical specialties. Liverpool University Foundation Hospital is part of the Major Trauma Centre Collaborative (MTCC), a partnership between Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust and is the regional Major Trauma Centre for the North West, providing the full range of services and clinical expertise for patients who are severely injured from all areas of the region.

Main A theatre consisting of 7 Theatres, Recovery and Surgical Forward Wait

  • Major Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Emergency theatre
  • Urology

Main B Theatre consisting of 5 Theatres, Recovery and Surgical Forward Wait

  • Routine and oncology ENT
  • MFU elective and trauma
  • Skull Base
  • Orthognathic

Main C Theatre Recovery and Surgical Forward Wait area

  • General surgery
  • Upper and lower GI
  • Breast
  • Hepatobiliary surgery

Elective Care Centre Theatres – consisting of 4 Theatres, 2 Treatment Rooms, Recovery, Day Ward and Surgical Forward Wait

  • General Surgery
  • Orthopaedics
  • Digestive Diseases
  • Urology
  • Breast
  • Ophthalmology
  • Vascular
  • Dermatology
  • ENT
  • Maxillo Facial Surgery

About you

We are looking to recruit full and part time ODPs and RNs who wish to develop their skills in theatre. You will have drive and enthusiasm to learn new skills, whilst gaining further qualifications.

The post holders will need to be able to work as part of the multidisciplinary team helping to provide patients with the highest level of care as well as being able to work as an individual practitioner during their daily practice. As a single site major Trauma Centre for the North West we provide a 24/7 emergency service and staff are required to participate in this cover.

We also offer a bespoke preceptorship programme and in-house training from our theatre education team and staff as well as degree level modules. There will also be opportunities for theatre practitioners to develop in enhanced roles such as surgical first assisting and advanced roles such as Surgical Care Practitioners. This is a fantastic opportunity for practitioners to enhance, expand and develop their existing knowledge and skills, in a diverse and challenging range of surgical specialties.
