About the role
The successful post holder will join the PTG Dispatch team, and be responsible for packing and shipping of eDNA samples for the Great Crested Newt project. You will receive comprehensive training and active support from your line manager and other members of the group to enable you to deliver.

This position is within the Proficiency Testing Group
PTG is a team of 30 colleagues responsible for the organisation of proficiency testing schemes for food and environmental analysis laboratories on a world-wide basis. Proficiency testing is an independent check of laboratory procedures providing a completely confidential assessment of their capabilities. Not only does participation in the relevant testing schemes allow demonstration of systems and the technical ability of staff but it will also help gain ISO:17025 accreditation. Schemes managed by the group currently include a food chemistry scheme, a food microbiology scheme, a genetically modified materials scheme and a water and environmental scheme.
Proving to customers that an organisation has quality systems in place is an important part of building long term relationships and securing future business.
Our customers are laboratories from both the public and private sectors, and 80% are outside the UK.
What you will do:
- Use of bespoke Laboratory Management systems to generate picking lists of orders to be dispatched
- Preparing for and carrying out daily packing and shipping of eDNA samples which will involve use of courier processing terminal
- Manage inventory of testing kits in a cold store
- Liaise with Admin and Tech Support teams to resolve any issues with shipping and orders.
- The post will involve manual handling, standing for prolonged periods and working in cold environments for which PPE will be provided.
