REED Legal have an exciting new opportunity for a Temporary Lawyer to assist with Employment Law work for a local authority. The work includes dealing with all aspects of Employment Tribunal claims for the Council (including representation at hearing), drafting and advising on settlement agreements and providing advice to HR clients on changing or applying policies or procedures. The areas of work include TUPE, redundancies, Equality Act claims, Pay and others.

The ideal candidate will have a recognised legal qualification with 1-5 years PQE, experience of how to run a judicial review, extensive litigation knowledge, analytical abilities, project management experience, legal systems and process knowledge and evidence of continuing professional and managerial development.
To contribute to the delivery of legal / statutory services that support the Council’s corporate planning, performance and strategy
Support continuous improvement in the legal / statutory functions of the City Council and support the Council as a whole in it’s drive to achieve excellence
To contribute to the development and implementation of strategies and plans to improve legal management standards and of policies and practices to ensure compliance with statutory and council legal regulations and best practice legal policies and processes
Providing legal advice, representation and support as required on all aspects of employment law and other related areas of law where appropriate (including but not limited to pension law, advice on claims of discrimination under the Equality Act, PSED challenges) and providing legal advice and supporting the development of HR policies and procedure.
Providing legal advice and support in connection with the implications of TUPE in respect to the transfer in or out of services.
Conduct of legal proceedings in the Employment Tribunal (ET) and County Court (in respect of claims arising out of contracts of employment) or as required.
Providing legal advice and support to enable the local authority to fulfil its Statutory and strategic functions.
Conduct of litigation before all courts and tribunals in relation to the work areas described in paragraph one.
Advocacy before first tier courts and tribunals and equivalent forum and before second tier court and tribunals as appropriate.
Legal drafting to include statements, reports, pleadings, court and tribunal orders, instructions to counsel and settlement agreements as required and as a necessary part of the conduct of legal proceedings before all relevant courts and tribunals.
Provide legal advice and support in defending judicial review proceedings and any other legal process as required.
Advising and assisting in the preparation of reports to cabinet, committees, boards and other bodies of the Council and where appropriate external agencies.
Representation at and advice to committees, boards, meetings, members and officers and outside bodies as required.
Support and/or mentor colleagues and team members to achieve best practice as required.
