The job title is a bit of a mouthful, mainly because it's not an out-and-out sales role, nor is it 100% project engineering. It's a bit of a mix which should make life interesting (and challenging) for the successful candidate.
We are working with an engineering company who produce process equipment and also provide advanced manufacturing solutions to a number of industries such as defence, nuclear and oil & gas. They want someone who is capable of developing leads within their markets, but who can also drive projects through the business, dealing internally with design, estimation and production.
The role will involve customer interaction, sometimes out at their facilities so a driving licence is essential. The role will report to the Business Development Lead who is reponsible for maximising sales from existing customers as well as prospecting for new business.
A background in mechanical engineering is essential and you will have either been involved in a very technical sales role or come from a project/programme management background. Other job roles which may be interchangeble with this are contract manager or proposals engineer. You will need to be confident in approaching internal functions and getting jobs done without having direct authority over that department. So a bit of charisma and diplomacy will go a long way.
You will be commercially astute. Many of these projects may incur customer-driven changes during their course and these changes will need to be costed and negotiated with the customer. Also you will need some tenacity to find out what other projects are in the pipeline within the customer base through building relationships and asking the right questions.
The role will be based from the production facility in Dukinfield which is made up of production lines for their traditional product lines, as well as a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing floor. There will be some requirement to travel to customer sites, primarily within the UK.
The company has ambitious growth plans which are being driven by a fairly new leadership team. They already have a track-record for devloping people and there will be further opportunities as their growth is realised.
