Technical Sales Engineer

The Role:

The ideal candidate must combine technical knowledge with sales skills and experience to provide advice and support on a range of products within the market. You will be a key point of contact for customers and provide both pre-and post-sales services. You will also work regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments. The job holder will be required to take on other duties as directed by the operations manager, including deputising as appropriate in their absence.

Responsibilities:

  • Searching for new leads maximizing client potential in designated regions
  • Developing long-term relationships with customers through managing and interpreting their requirements
  • Negotiating tender and contract terms and conditions to meet both customer and company needs
  • Calculating customer quotations and administering accounts
  • Providing pre-sales technical assistance and product education, and supporting the after-sales team
  • Analysing costs and sales for each client
  • Preparing reports for management on a weekly basis
  • Meeting regular sales targets and coordinating sales projects
  • Technical presentations and demonstrating how a product meets the customer needs
  • Ensure that the Company's recognised suppliers are always delivering best value and that new suppliers are sought where appropriate
  • Responsible for identifying and monitoring market trends, so that recommendations can be made for new product developments
  • Ensure all jobs secured are accurately recorded and priced so that there is complete end to end transparency
  • Liaise with the appropriate department to ensure the correct specifications and timely completion of customer orders and to manage customer expectations positively and appropriately throughout
  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of the Health & Safety policy
  • Regularly reviews the market to ensure best value is maintained and new suppliers are sought wherever appropriate
  • Market trends are monitored on a regular basis. Developments in trends are identified and appropriately reported to the Director - Tank Division. Recommendations for product development are put forward as appropriate

Person Specification:

  • Previous sales exposure within the transport/fabrication environment
  • Fluent in MS Office & Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Previous experience in a sales environment, managing key accounts and working to sales targets
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional Presentation skills as well as an experienced presenter in group setting to both technical and business audiences
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Mostly office based with some field work

Hours and Pay:

  • Monday - Friday 40 hour a week
  • 22 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
  • Pension
  • Free parking
  • Company Car ('66 plate Astra SRI) and fuel card, Mobile Phone
  • Bonus to be negotiated
  • £20,000 - £28,000 per annum
