We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our sector-leading consultancy clients! They are currently looking for a skilled Technical Business Analyst to join their team on a 12 month contract.
Job Responsibilities/Objectives
You will be responsible for supporting the development, enhancement, and implementation of technology solutions for Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, analyze ETF-related processes, and help drive the technological development of ETF products from concept through implementation.
1. Business Analysis & Technical Requirements Gathering:
o Work closely with business stakeholders (product managers, operations, trading desks) to elicit, document, and validate technical requirements related to ETF products and services.
o Analyze ETF product lifecycles, including creation/redemption, settlement, liquidity management, pricing, and trading, to identify business needs and translate them into technical specifications.
o Ensure clear communication of functional and non-functional requirements to development teams for system design and implementation.
2. ETF Build & Technology Solution Design:
o Collaborate with development teams to design and implement technology solutions that support ETF processes, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
o Work on integrating ETF functionalities across multiple platforms, including trading systems, settlement platforms, risk management systems, and data providers.
o Help design and optimize ETF-related workflows, focusing on automating manual processes and improving operational efficiency.
3. System Integration & Optimization:
o Support the integration of ETF technology platforms with existing internal and external systems (e.g., OMS, EMS, clearing and settlement systems, market data providers).
o Analyze and identify areas for system enhancements and process improvements to streamline the ETF lifecycle and reduce operational risk.
o Monitor system performance to ensure scalability, data accuracy, and minimal latency for real-time ETF trading and operations.
4. Testing & Quality Assurance:
o Develop test plans, scenarios, and user acceptance testing (UAT) strategies for ETF technology solutions, ensuring that the final product meets business needs.
o Coordinate and execute testing efforts, working closely with QA teams to ensure the quality and accuracy of ETF systems and processes.
o Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues identified during testing or post-implementation.
5. Regulatory & Compliance Support:
o Ensure that ETF systems and processes comply with relevant financial regulations, including reporting, tax, and settlement requirements.
o Stay updated on changes in ETF regulations, such as MiFID II, SEC, and UCITS, and advise teams on how these changes impact technology and system requirements.
6. Documentation & Communication:
o Document technical specifications, business process flows, and system architecture related to ETF builds and enhancements.
o Prepare detailed reports and presentations for key stakeholders to communicate project progress, risks, and technical challenges.
o Serve as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries related to ETF systems and workflows.
7. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
o Facilitate communication between business, technical, and operational teams to ensure the smooth execution of ETF technology projects.
o Collaborate with product managers, portfolio managers, and trading desks to identify business needs and translate them into actionable technical solutions.
o Work closely with technology vendors, exchanges, and third-party providers to evaluate and implement external solutions supporting ETF processes.
Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:
* Education:
o Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
o Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's in Finance or Business) or industry certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) are a plus.
* Experience:
o 5-7 years of commercial experience as a business analyst in financial services, with a focus on ETF products, technology, and capital markets.
o Proven experience with ETF product life cycles, including the technical aspects of trading, settlement, creation/redemption, and asset servicing.
o Experience with technology platforms used in the ETF space, such as order management systems (OMS), execution management systems (EMS), risk management platforms, or clearing and settlement systems.
o Strong understanding of the technical requirements and challenges involved in building and maintaining ETF technology solutions.
* Skills:
o In-depth knowledge of ETFs, including the mechanics of ETF trading, creation/redemption, arbitrage, and pricing.
o Strong technical background, with proficiency in gathering requirements and writing detailed technical specifications for development teams.
o Experience with system integration, data flows, and APIs, especially in capital markets or ETF technology platforms.
o Familiarity with financial regulations impacting ETFs (e.g., SEC, MiFID II, UCITS) and how they relate to system requirements.
o Strong communication skills to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
o Problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify technical issues and propose solutions.
* Technical Skills:
o Knowledge of key programming languages, such as SQL, Python, or Java.
o Familiarity with financial data management tools and platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Aladdin, Fidessa).
o Experience with agile project management methodologies and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
o Familiarity with cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure) and their application to ETF solutions.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Although not essential, the following skills are desired by the client:
* Deep knowledge of capital markets technology, especially related to ETFs.
* Familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, or blockchain and their potential applications in the ETF space.
