Technical Estimator

We are currently recruiting for a Technical Estimator to be based at our Stairs Plant in Melton Mowbray. JELD-WEN is a leading global manufacturer of windows, doors, stairs, and treated composite trim and panels - operates 90 facilities in more than 20 countries with $3.5 billion in revenues; half of which comes from outside the United States.

In the UK, JELD-WEN has approximately 1200 staff that produce and distribute quality doors, windows, patio doors and stairs. Operating across 5 factories - the UK head office and door production facility is based in Sheffield; 3 factories in Melton Mowbray - one that is dedicated to timber windows, doorsets and patio doorsets, one that is the largest volume production facility for timber stairs in the UK, and the mill which supplies components to the other sites; and the Penrith factory, which specialises in the manufacture of veneered, foil and moulded internal doors.

Key Objectives of the role

Set the standards for production, operational activities. Role model behaviours in line with the JELD-WEN standard of acceptance and in accordance with JELD-WEN values and expectations.

Remodel technical activities towards world-class performance; make continuous improvement standard practice. Educate, develop and inspire team members towards betterment and achievement.

The ability to understand and interpret customers' wood stair enquiries from which to produce an accurate quotation. This is a technical role involving extracting information from architectural drawings, having an awareness of the relevant building regulations and preparing estimates.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To behave at all times in line with the JELD-WEN standard of acceptance and in accordance with JELD-WEN values and expectations

  • A willingness to learn, respond to change and improve personal performance

  • Make continuous improvements standard practice.

  • Be an active and inspirational team member contributing towards the estimating departments betterment and achievement, actively improving the employee survey

  • Produce accurate quotations with detailed analysis

  • Analyse specifications and create design layout

  • Works to a high standard with Estimating Staircase Technicians pre- production

  • Pricing wood stairs for Builders Merchants; House Builders and Self-Builds from architect drawings and rough sketches

  • Booking in enquiries onto systems. Checking enquiries to ascertain Building Regulation compliance and that we can offer product/specification requested

  • Contacting customers direct by phone, email, fax if further information is required

  • Delivers customer service within and across all levels of the business

  • Priorities the customer needs, ensuring accuracy first time every time

  • Able to deal with varied customers' enquiries, paying attention to detail every time

  • Contacting Sales Teams and Line Managers to expedite enquiries through to conversation to order

  • Will be required to learn stair CAD drawing

  • Ability to compare and contrast, data analysis

  • Ensures Legal Compliance is met first time every time

Experience and Background requirements

  • Previous experience with windows based drawing's CAD is desirable however not essential

  • Previous experience of building product's, enquiries or estimating preferred, however not essential

  • Previous experience of CAD drawing (Educated or equivalent) would be desirable, however not essential

  • Good examples given of developing self and others (the desire to learn)

  • A good working knowledge of Excel and Word would be advantageous

  • Previous experience of working with customers

  • Previous experience of working with Legal Compliance or equivalent is advantageous

  • GCSE 'C' or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
