Technical Buyer

Honda Racing is currently seeking a Technical Buyer for its Formula 1 Energy systems as a fix termed contract until July 2021. Initially this role will be working from home, but you will be required to work from Milton Keynes.

Controlling and supporting the supply chain and purchasing process to deliver Formula 1 Motorsport Programmes, you will work in conjunction with Lead Technical Buyer and Project Manager for project planning and procurement.

This role is focussed on three main areas;

  • Detailed planning and task management including loading of production routings,

    production orders and purchase orders

  • Working in the purchasing team to deliver the cost effective and timely procurement of components to support the Formula 1 power unit delivery

  • Delivering improvements to the complete procurement process from design to delivery of components- working efficiently to maintain compressed timescales

    Main Responsibilities:

  • Purchasing in support of all programmes with a particular focus on electronics, complex machined components, precision engineering, composite components, cooling systems, assemblies and tooling based on the project plans.

  • Development of the supply chain, focusing on reducing lead-time, increasing agility and delivery performance and ensuring all specifications and quality standards are met.

  • Representation of the company and presentation of a professional and dynamic approach.

  • Interaction and communication with all of the key stakeholders and project team.

  • Development, creation and maintenance of purchase orders.

  • Negotiate with suppliers, manage their performance and ensure supplier due date adherence.

  • Support the company in delivering programmes in an efficient, problem-solving manner.

  • Work with the Quality team to ensure projects are de risked ahead of launch and all work is being managed within processes outlined.

  • Any other tasks as required by the Company

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • Manufacturing knowledge of electronics, composites, and complex machined components is critical

  • Motorsport or high precision engineering industry experience is desirable

  • Education to degree or extensive experience in an Engineering, Project Management, Procurement or related discipline or equivalent and professional training and certification (CIPS) would be an advantage

  • Full Driving license and competence to drive in the UK

  • PC literate


  • Able to work autonomously under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Flexible and able to adapt and prioritise workload

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with high levels of initiative

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to plan and manage own workload/projects

  • Fluency in spoken & written English is essential. Competence in Japanese or another European language is desirable

  • Cross cultural working environment experience

  • Competence and licence to drive in the UKFormula 1 Energy systems
