The starting salary for this role is £40,227 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join a new team in Surrey County Council as an advocate for IT on a 12-month fixed term contract (to be reviewed at a later date).
The council has recently completed a major update of software and hardware solutions for its staff. The Tech Advocates are required to work closely with specific teams and individuals within the business to promote and support the full value of these solutions. In this role, you will work with the wider business to find out how they are currently using technology and how they are hoping to develop its use, and consider any new or improved uses and processes for that team. You will then be responsible for providing the tailored training, guides and support required. In addition to this, you will seek out opportunities to promote and demonstrate the IT solutions available to staff.
We are looking for a Tech Advocate to promote best practice and enable staff to use technology with confidence in four main areas:
- MS Teams
- Conferencing Technology
You will need to be open to immerse yourself in one of the specialist areas and receive training, alongside self-led learning and research, to become an expert in your field. You do not need to have had a previous background working in IT, but you will need strong IT skills and natural curiosity. You will work alongside your colleagues in IT & Digital to enable staff to use tech to achieve their goals, using face to face and virtual engagement sessions, and to provide opportunities for staff to try out technology or ask questions in a ‘Tech Lounge’ type environment.
To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence the following competencies:
- Inquisitive and seeks to understand how new tech can be used
- Empathetic and has a passion for enabling others to get the most out of their technology
- Is proactive, sociable, and friendly in nature
- Capable of using plain English to explain complex concepts or technology features
- Confident in delivering engagement sessions face to face and virtually
- Ability to produce customer friendly IT guides, videos and training materials.
The Tech Advocate will need to be available to work on-site based at our Reigate office and to travel to other Surrey County Council sites as required. There will be some opportunity to work in a remote manner, such as from home, if this meets the business needs.
