Teaching Assistant - SEMH School, New Milton

Posted 21 October by Academics

Academics are seeking a Learning Support Assistant with experience of supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) for a full-time, term-time contract to start ASAP.

The school is based in New Milton and caters for pupils aged 7-16 years who find mainstream school difficult. They were classed as a 'Good' school by Ofsted in 2019 where they stated that - OFSTED says in July 2019 "Pupils make strong progress during their time at the school and most are able to successfully return to mainstream schools. Many pupils achieve significant improvements in a relatively short period. The carefully crafted culture of the school and its curriculum enable many pupils to make strong progress in their social and emotional development"

The school prides itself on recognising the barriers to education of their young people. Using detailed assessment packages, specific targeted work, coaching and self-reflection, they challenge and teach young people how to manage their emotions whilst maintaining academic progress. Issues can include inadequate social skills, self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation or empathy or any combination of these. They work to help young people develop socially and emotionally to unlock their personal barriers to learning as well as life itself.

You will be required to work on a 1:1 basis and in classes across the school where required. Experience of supporting children with social, emotional and behaviour needs (SEMH) is essential.

If you are available full-time for after half term and feel you would be suited to this position, please apply using the link provided. This is a potential temporary to permanent position.
