UK trained and experienced primary school teachers wanted
We are offering a unique opportunity to be a part of the start up process in a small team at a new British International School.
The school is located in the beautiful valley of the river Ebro, near Tortosa, in the southernmost part of Catalonia, laying in a small Mediterranean microclimate which secures similar weather patterns to those on the Valencian coasts. It is advantageousto live in the area because of a lower economy compared to the larger cities, Costa Blanca and Costa Del Sol. There is a thriving foreigners community for networking and it is easy to integrate with both foreigners and locals.
We plan to use modern teaching methods, practise school democracy, have a low pupil/teacher ratio and focus on the well being of pupils and staff.
The school will be small, only 120 pupils with a maximum of 15 pupils per class (Early years, Key stage 1-2). We have chosen an intensive schedule so the teaching hours all lie between 9-14. The method is based on the latest research working in skills corners in the early morning training reading/writing, mathematics and science skills with manipulative material e.g., the Numicon system for mathematics. The later part of the morning will be used for cross curricular projects. The school will focus greatly on our SEL (social and emotional learning) programme. We do not only integrate the program in our daily life, work and projects but have specifically scheduled SEL one hour a week (class conference). On our schedule we also have "school democracy" and many hours dedicated to the creative subjects; music, drama and arts -especially in the Early Years and at Key Stage 1
You as a teacher will have a large influence on the content and the daily decisions at the school. Teachers will work as a team in a non-hierarchical system and you will take part in regular democratic whole school meetings as well as regular teachers meetings to plan and guide our direction and to safeguard the well being of teachers and pupils.
It is a requirement that you:
Are a qualified teacher from the UK
Have teaching experience from a UK school or British International School in either Early Years or Key Stage 1-2 with an in-depth knowledge of the British National Curriculum and/or the Early Learning Goals
Further it would help if you:
Are skilled within music and/or drama
Are innovative, enterprising and independent
Speak Catalan or Spanish
Have experience with alternative teaching methods
