Systems Engineer

Location : Dorset

Salary to c38k plus benefits

Responsibilities :-

To design and oversee the development of electronics / embedded software / commercial software and hardware based systems.

  • Provide input and support to Business Development with pre-sales and tender enquiries
  • Act as key technical interface to customers to gather and document specific requirements during internal and external meetings
  • Capture requirements and produce complete system design documentation, including high-level functional specifications and software logic / data formats
  • Oversee the development and delivery of both hardware and software for systems throughout the Project/Product development life-cycle
  • Resolve technical issues during the project/product life-cycle
  • Assist the Project/Product Manager and Solutions Architect in suggesting and reviewing design solutions
  • Oversee the testing and quality assurance before delivery of the system, attending customer acceptance tests as required
  • Prepare effort estimates and time-scales for individual project activities
  • Assist the Solutions Architect to manage a cross functional project team ensuring that each team member understands their role, the activities and deliverables expected from them
  • Prepare verification and validation test plans
  • Oversee the FAT and ensure the system leaves the factory in accordance with the requirements
  • Oversee the handover of the project into Technical Support
  • Assist the Solutions Architect to identify and mitigate technical issues and risks
  • Assist hardware and software engineers implementing designs
  • Supporting users on change control and systems updates
  • Assume the role of 'ProductOwner’ under the Agile methodology for key elements of the project or product Participate
  • Contribute to interdepartmental communication in order to improve awareness of the project and customer needs and the creation of a team spirit within and outside their own work responsibility
  • Contribute to a service minded and client-oriented approach and promptly respond to external and internal correspondence with the service of the client in focus
  • Actively contribute to improve the quality of both products and services by working in accordance with internal and external quality standards
  • Participate and lead where necessary in the Agile 'Scrums’ for the project or product Job

Experience :-

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in systems engineering and design, with customer facing experience and preferably designing for embedded systems OR from an IT background incorporating designing of systems as well as gathering and documenting external client requirements incorporating networking, software, databases, Cloud and Web services.

Core skills :-

  • Ability to design, communicate and update complex systems
  • Excellent proven customer service skills and experience
  • An understanding of some of the following IT technologies would be beneficial : RS232, RS485, Ethernet, Wired/Wireless Networking, TCP/IP, VPN, NFC, Smart Card Technologies, Databases, Cloud, Web technologies etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Visio and Powerpoint
  • Ability to work in a demand led environment showing both adaptability and problem solving skills
  • Excellent time-management, the ability to work to deadlines with commitment to deliver on time to the internal/external customer’s satisfaction
