Job Description:Systems Engineer ( 3rd Line)

Job Title: IT Systems Engineer

Location: Ipswich, Suffolk

Reports To: IT Systems Engineering Team Leader

Sector: Construction

Day rate: £250.00

Duration: 3 month initially


Job Purpose
The Systems Engineers are part of the Systems Engineering Team (SET), which is a multidisciplinary
team of IT engineers who primarily work from my clients Ipswich’s office. The Systems
Engineers report to the Systems Engineering Team Leader (SETL) and will be expected to travel to
my clients offices around the UK; on occasion, also traveling to offices in overseas locations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure that the Systems EngineeringTeam is responsible for
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability that theSystems Engineering Team is responsible for
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and systemmanagement tools where necessary
  • Provide 3rd level support incident resolution
  • Create, review and submit change requests to the Change Advisory Board (CAB)
  • When required, sit as an expert reviewer on CABs
  • Deploy security and functional updates to all systems in a timely and controlled manner,following ISG’s project and change governance
  • Help develop work packages in consultation with the project managers and designers
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identifying solutions whennecessary
  • Maintain security functionality, and adhere to backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the humanintervention time on any tasks
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • Liaise with business, vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Participate in on-call support rota
  • Any other work as required by the SETL

  • Intermediate VMware Virtual Center knowledge and experience
  • Intermediate Citrix XenApp knowledge and experience
  • Intermediate Active Directory Domain Services knowledge and experience
  • Intermediate Office 365 administration knowledge and experience
  • Basic SCCM administration knowledge and experience
  • Basic Solarwinds administration knowledge and experience
  • Basic Exchange administration knowledge and experience
  • Basic SQL administration knowledge and experience
  • Basic SAN knowledge and experience
  • Basic Networking knowledge and experience, including firewall and VPN
  • Basic VMware ESXi server knowledge and experience
  • Basic IT Security knowledge and experience
  • Basic DFS knowledge and experience
  • Basic McAfee EPO knowledge and experience
  • Basic SharePoint knowledge and experience
  • Basic Active Directory Federated Services knowledge and experience
  • Service related focus with the ability to place yourself in the position of the customer to
  • understand their concerns and issues
  • Must work to a high degree of accuracy with good attention to detail, resulting in consistent
  • technical configuration and documentation
  • An analytical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent stakeholder identification and management
  • Ability to produce and critique technical documentation in a clear, logical and concise wayrelevant
  • to specific audience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information and risks to non-technical users.
  • Ability to present ideas and information to both technical and non-technical audiences
