Synthetic Chemist

We are hiring for a synthetic chemist for a 6 month (or longer) contract, for our client in Manchester. We’re seeking someone who can bring a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, our client is a successful and well established chemical company with a multinational footprint.

What you’ll do

As synthetic chemist, you will be responsible for planning and executing synthetic organic chemistry related activities, and this will involve aspects of project management, customer interaction, working to agreed timelines and deadlines.

You will be focussed primarily on projects related to scale up of synthesis processes, mg-to-gram / gram-to-kilo / kilo-to-pilot or production. The synthetic chemist will carry out a variety of chemical reaction processes depending on the project with inherent challenges in route identification and scale up of processes from small to large.

Your background

To be considered for the synthetic chemist role, you will be qualified as follows:

  • PhD / equivalent i.e. MChem + experience.
  • Industrial experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • We are ideally seeking someone who can bring experience of (or ability) in leading their own projects and participate in customer interaction, with a dedication to delivery of sometimes challenging chemistries to their clients.

Desirable skills:

We are additionally seeking good communication and time management skills, ability to take on multiple projects, and ability to motivate others, in the synthetic chemist candidates. This is a role that will involve occasional time pressure on projects and working to deadlines for clients. Our client is able to offer engaging work and progression opportunities in future.
