Operating from state-of-the-art research facilities, our client is a leading Contract Research Organisation, providing medicinal chemistry, process research and other synthetic chemistry services to the global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries. This is a 20-year-old business with an established and growing presence in the market, making this an exciting time to join.
As part of an ongoing expansion to meet the rising demand for our services, they are now looking to recruit an exceptional individual to contribute to the leadership and management of our project teams at BioCity.
What you’ll do:
Reporting directly to the Head of Medicinal Chemistry, you will be a key member of our leadership team; your role will involve the design and implementation of new synthetic routes, supporting the day-to-day activities of our research chemists, and liaising directly with our clients and collaborators.
You will be working on a variety of projects in a non-GMP environment driving drug development programmes, medicinal chemistry process research and custom synthesis. This will be at the milligram to 500g scale with routes optimized for future development to kilo and higher.
This is a 'hands on’ role which will call for your expertise in synthesis and utilize the strong knowledge in this field to overcome reaction problems, plan routes and motivate and develop your team. You will be, on a project by project basis, leading groups of 4-8 chemists who will in the main be PhD level individuals. Core to your leadership will be the technical input to these projects and also your ability to plan work, and deal with deadlines or unexpected issues. While maintaining high levels of motivation; providing the management and coaching where and when needed.
PhD degree in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry is preferred along with at least 3 years of relevant experience within a biotech, pharmaceutical or contract chemical research organisation. This is a role which one could 'step up’ into, perhaps this would be your second or third job move following a PhD and that break into management?
Previous experience of leading small teams to support drug discovery projects at the hit-to-lead and lead optimization stages would be an advantage, but is not a prerequisite. You will be experienced in working in targeted environments, customer liaison and line management or feel ready to take the move into this kind of function.
Our client recognizes that a company’s real strengths lie in the people that it employs. Our strategy is to recruit the most talented individuals to bring a wealth of creative talent to our team. This is a permanent role offering an attractive Salary, Benefits and Training package. If you have the drive and ambition to help shape the development of a dynamic research-led company located in the heart of the vibrant City of Nottingham, then we look forward to receiving your application.
