Post Designation:Swimming Instructor
Responsible to:Duty Officer / Facility Manager
Location:A facility operated by the Sport and Recreation
Hours:As specified in letter of appointment. These will not follow
normal office hours and evening, weekend and Bank Holiday working will be required.
Job Purpose and Role
To provide instructional services through progressive stages in accordance with policies and objectives determined by the Council. To assist with the operation of facilities, ensuring excellent standards of customer care and service.

Essential qualifications for the role:
*Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
*First Aid at Work Certificate (which includes a cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
*ASA Level 2 Certificate
*RLSS Rescue Test for Teachers qualification
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1.To ensure the safe and correct use of instructional facilities and equipment.
2.To inspect instructional facilities and equipment at least once a week and report to the Duty Officer any repair work which is required.
3.To organise instructional courses for all age groups.
4.To programme courses to enable a natural progression towards recognised examinations.
5.To maintain records for courses delivered.
6.To use a waiting list of potential users for enrolment onto new courses.
7.To maintain instructional equipment in a clean condition.
8.To work shifts in conjunction with other staff for the provision of a service covering the opening hours of the establishment.
9.To assist in the development and operation of a facility against the adopted management plan and relevant development plans.
10.To provide an emergency capability and administer first aid as and when required.
11.To provide effective customer care in responding to customers' enquiries for information.
12.To regularly update all facility notice boards as required to promote instructional activities.
13.To attend further training relevant to the post.
14.At all times, the Swimming Instructor must work within the established procedures and work practices determined by sport and recreation management.
15.To ensure that the Council's administrative procedures, systems, Standing Orders and financial regulations are adhered to.
16.To ensure that all practices comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
17.To liaise with Sport and Recreation management in a regular review of this job description to reflect changes in the needs of the service.
