Support workers needed

We are looking for experienced support workers who are looking for a full time and permanent role in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire.

This role is in a supported living community for adults with learning disabilities run by a large charitable organisation. This self-contained community provides various forms of accommodation for a number of young adults with the aim of promoting independence, inclusion and choice amongst the service users.

In this role you will be required to assist service users in day to day tasks such as food preparation and meal plans, cleaning and tidying of their accommodation, maintaining good personal hygiene, supporting service users to safely administer their own medication and assisting them in attending any medical appointments.

This role will also involve assisting the service users with create personal budgets and aiding them in managing their finances, supporting them with access to any educational curses they may choose to partake in and encouraging them to partake in an active social life within the community. As this role is centred on promoting independence there is less of a focus on personal care however there may be instances in which you are required to deliver high quality personal care to the service users.

You will also be required to directly liaise with service user’s parents and social workers when appropriate, advocate for them when appropriate and contribute to their individual support plans and risk assessments.

To succeed in this role it is essential that you have at least 6 months experience working in the care and support industry preferably having previously worked with adults with learning disabilities, a good level of maths and English and excellent communication skills both verbal and non-verbal, an understanding of safeguarding and care legislation and a passion for caring for vulnerable adults. It is preferable that you have an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or the willingness to work towards the qualification.

A full UK driver’s licence is also required for this role.

The salary for this position is £8.10 an hour.
