Support Worker, Various Hours - Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Posted 7 February by Mencap

Do you want to make a positive difference to people's lives?

We are immensely proud of our Short Break Children's service in Shrewsbury and we are looking for support workers to join our dedicated team. Our Children's service provides a short break service for children & young people with a learning disability and complex needs.

You will be responsible for supporting children and young people with day to day tasks including personal care, medication and independence skills, you will also be expected to support young people in a variety of activities and outings, visiting farms, going swimming and being involved in arts and crafts. A big part of the role is to support the children and the young people to get the most from these activities, this might mean getting stuck in and having a go yourself. Another vital part of the role is the up keep of important paperwork and support planning, ensuring that children have the best possible opportunities to meet their goals.

Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. Flexibility is key for both yourself and for the service as you may be required to work a variety of different shifts throughout the week and weekends including mornings (ideal for you early risers!) afternoons and evenings. You may also have to work some Bank Holidays and be on call occasionally.
We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota is prepared well in advance.

The role of a Support Worker can be very challenging at times so it is essential to have a positive mind-set with a desire to improve the lives of those with a learning disability. You will need to be quick thinking with a positive can do attitude.
Being a support worker requires someone who is resilient, patient, hardworking and motivated. For your work we will reward you and support you with progression opportunities, training and an amazing career with us.

The young people we support have created profiles about what they want from their support worker, please have a look at this on the additional details tab.
