Support worker Trowbridge

Posted 5 April by Mencap Ended

Do you love to ramble like Janet Street Porter or do you fancy yourself to be a bit of an AP McCoy?

We are looking to expand our team of dedicated support workers in Trowbridge who are currently supporting a gentleman called M, who has a learning disability. M is a young man who we support 24 hours a day, as continuity throughout the day is important for M.

As a support worker, flexibility is key for both yourself and for the service, as you may be required to work a variety of different shifts throughout the week, including mornings (ideal for you early risers!), evenings and sleep-ins (Payment for sleep ins is competitive and compliant with National Living Wage requirements). The best thing about flexibility? It's a two-way street. While we may require that you work a variety of shifts, we also understand that you'll have your own requirements - have you got commitments on a Thursday? Not to worry, we can factor this in, as well as other requests (provided you give us enough notice) into our rotas.

There are a number of things that are important to M - in particular knowing what's happening, who will be supporting him and that his routines remain consistent - who doesn't want to be in the know? It's also important to have a variety of hobbies to keep yourself entertained - M does this through riding (which also includes his therapy) and taking long walks in the countryside - what better way to hunt for the 'Beast of Trowbridge'?

You will be required to support M in a number of ways. Some of these will include:

  • Setting up my skype to talk to my family.
  • Support with my Epilepsy medication
  • Maintaining my personal hygiene and having you full attention when I am in the shower as I have Epilepsy.
  • Managing my finances and purchasing goods.

As a support worker, all you'll need to have is a positive attitude and a desire to improve the lives of those with a learning disability. If you support those within our services, we will support you with award winning training and progression opportunities throughout your career with us.

For further details of this role please click on the 'additional information' attachments at the bottom of this advertisement - from here you will be able to read all of the one page profiles of the people we support, offering you an insight to the people you will be supporting.

Enhanced DBS is required for each successful candidate.
