Service Description

Opportunities have arisen to join our team at our Peterhead Housing Support Services. We provide support for 11 people. We offer housing support to these individuals to allow them to live as independently as possible within the community.

A typical day starts with providing morning personal care routine, this may include support with showering, going to the toilet and getting dressed. Staff could be working with more than one person on any shift. Medication, cleaning and finances are a daily responsibility for members of staff.

Staff support the people we support with daily activities which may be shopping, going to the day centre or day trips, cooking and meal preparation, going to the cinema & attending health appointments etc. This post will include evening and weekend work in accordance with the needs of the service.

Some of the challenges the people we support face include limited verbal communication, autism & mobility challenges.

Opportunities will be subject to receipt of satisfactory references, membership of the PVG Scheme & registration to the SSSC.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work cooperatively as part of the support team in providing a high standard of care and support to individuals with learning disabilities

  • Providing quality day-to-day care and support for the individuals living in or being supported at your service

  • Coordinate the day to day implementation of the support plan for each individual supported

  • Providing quality personal care where necessary, which could include bathing etc. depending on individual needs, while maintaining respect and sensitivity at all times

  • Administering medication as required

  • Assisting with finances and day to day budgeting for those we support

  • Identify new opportunities for integration, participation and inclusion, available to the people we support, both within the services and the community

  • Review and monitor the support plans regularly against agreed quality standards and suggest improvements as appropriate

  • Promote healthy eating and support individuals to attend any health appointments

  • Participate in household tasks, which include cleaning, cooking, ironing, washing etc and encourage those in the service to join in

  • Work with the people we support and implement appropriate strategies as agreed through Proactive Possibilities training and planning when supporting people who may have behaviours that challenge.

  • Accompany those we support to go on holiday and/or activities where appropriate

  • Promote and encourage independence and develop real life skills with those you support

  • Comply with relevant legislation, Inspires Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, working with colleagues ensuring that procedures are correctly followed

  • Undertake related report writing, daily notes recordings and minutes of meetings as required

  • Work with people we support to encourage meaningful participation in the recruitment and selection of staff

  • Work with relief staff and volunteers to ensure they have the support expertise needed to sustain a high quality service including induction and training

  • Have a good understanding of Health and Safety and follow risk assessments

  • Perform any other duties which may reasonably be required


  • Experience of caring and supporting people, this can be personal, voluntary or work experience

  • Confident communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • Able to work various shifts - work on rota as required, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, sleep-overs, and holidays with individuals.

  • Lone working and moving and handling may be a feature of the work.

  • Ability to undertake various responsibilities with confidence

  • Good problem solving skills

  • Ability to work effectively as a team

  • Ability to deal with financial transactions

  • Commitment to continuing professional development

  • Ability to work on own initiative to agreed timescales and standards

  • Must be able to represent the company in a professional manner at all times

  • Basic cooking skills or willing to learn

  • Willing to undertake training

Additional delegated responsibilities include (on a rota basis)

  • Undertaking the role of a key-worker where you work with those we support to organise their annual review, assist in compiling and reviewing the support plans

  • Cash book administration

  • Health & Safety role

  • Write the staff team meeting minutes

  • Following people we supports finance procedure

  • Identified person who inducts new staff

  • Provide staff support to relief staff

  • Representative for positive people group

  • Any other delegated responsibility identified by the Manager
