Would you like to finish work each day knowing that you have made a difference?
We are looking for a positive, compassionate and caring Support Worker to work within our Plymouth service on a part time basis (30 hours) where we support 8 (soon to be 9) people with a learning disability.
You will be responsible and involved in the everyday life of the people that we support, making sure that they are fully involved when it comes to receiving the support that they all need and want.
So what does our Plymouth service look like?
The people that we support here have a long list of things that they love to do and be supported with, we have a thrill seeker who loves going to theme parks and going on all of the rides, a real music lover who loves to be supported to a nightclub and to festivals and a gentleman who loves a trip to the pub. There's lot's of other activities that are enjoyed within the service from disco's and the cinema to hydrotherapy and everything in between.
It's really important that you are comfortable and interested in working with people who have complex health issues - you will be involved in providing medication support, as well as personal care and our award winning training will ensure that you are able to provide all of this support in the best possible way.
Interested in carrying on the conversation?
We put the people who we support at the heart of what we do. We make sure that everyone is as equally involved with the recruitment process as our very own recruitment team. If you look at the pink box titled"additional information" you'll see some information about some of the people that we support.
You don't need to have experience but it is essential that you share our values. As long as you have a positive attitude and want to improve the lives of those with a learning disability, we will support you with progression opportunities throughout your career with us.
Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. You will need to be able to work across a range of different days and shift patterns, including sleep ins (sleep ins are compliant and competitive with national living wage) . We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota is prepared well in advance - Got a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you - although, we do work on a rota basis, and you must be comfortable with shift working.
An enhanced DBS will be required for each successful candidate (Paid for by Mencap, T&Cs apply)
This position is based in Plymouth which has excellent links to public transport.
